This piece began at the block, not in the studio.
Inspired by the butcher’s twine I use every day in my role as a butcher, this print pays tribute to a quiet staple of the trade. The twine is always there, tying, bundling, holding things together. It is practical, repetitive, and often overlooked, yet essential to the rhythm of the shop and the work done within it.
Using the puzzle printmaking technique, I was able to print this piece in two colours. A deep black paired with the distinctive red of butcher’s twine, a colour that instantly speaks to butcher shops, food culture, and hands-on work. Each colour is carved and printed separately, requiring precision and patience, much like the trade that inspired it.
The solid black line frames the image, grounding the composition and giving the twine space to stand on its own. Every mark you see is carved by hand, then printed by hand, making each print subtly unique.
Printed on high-quality printmaking paper.
• A4 size (21 x 29.7 cm)
• Original hand-carved lino block
• Hand-printed using the puzzle technique
• Two-colour print: black and red
• Limited run of 25

This piece is a small nod to working hands, daily rituals, and the beauty found in ordinary tools when you stop and really look.
